Afternoon Shift 25 March 2005

Of all the jobs in America, I believe there may be none better than a relief pitcher awaiting his turn in a spring training game. The basic job description--beyond superlative baseball skills, of course--is to recline, chat, adjust your hat every few minutes and occasionally spit a seed or two. If things get particularly hectic, you may be required to arise and toss a baseball for five minutes. Otherwise, you just recross your legs and set for a while.
