Stair Girl 24 February 2005

I think and breathe photography these days. I study the shadows in the concrete outside Chipotle, I brake for rusty fire hydrants, I scan the landscape for silhouettes of just about anything. It's a sickness. When you start seeing the world as a photographer, you cease seeing it as a human being. This is good and bad. Mindfulness is a good thing. Rain Man with a camera ... not so much.

Here's a recent shot I like for the simple reason that I overcame my fear of shooting strangers to get it. There's nothing so satisfying as a good journalistic shot because you get one chance to nail it. In all likelihood, the girl in the pink coat will never sit on those steps again.
