As midnight approaches, the symphony of small sounds begins. A distant TV murmurs, goes silent, and a dishwasher churns to life. Socks whisper on hardwoods. A faucet squeaks and old cabinet doors groan in long meter. The cat, who has slumbered the day away, gallops down the hallway. He is playing a game only he understands. A fan on a bedside table purrs, and outside a car horn sounds and a pair of revelers laugh a little too loudly.

Down the hallway fingers crawl over a laptop keyboard in staccato bursts. And yesterday becomes today.
