Today I set my jaw and returned to the neighborhood that caused me so much grief on Sunday. I'm not sure why I'm so drawn to this area, or why I risk further run-ins to get more photos there. Perhaps some questions aren't meant to be answered.

This outing turned up a nearly hidden semi-circle, just off a lonely southeast street, peopled by battered, abandoned apartments. An urban ghost town. This place would be absolutely forbidding at night, and even in daytime it has a certain spooky quality. You can feel the spirit of the people who once lived here, the children who played out front, the conversations from one stoop to the next. It's all gone now. But still I feel it.
